Among others, I have used sugar syrup to prepare fruit juices: apple juice, nashi pear juice, lemonade, orange juice, strawberry lemonade juice, pineapple juice, asam boi grass jelly drink, Spanish melon juice, and grapefruit juice. The sugar syrup could also be used to make other drinks or dessert or dishes that require instant sugar.

In the recipe below the steps refer to preparing a bottle (750ml) of sugar syrup, but I prepared 2 bottles of sugar syrup for photo presentation purpose (looks nicer with 2 bottles).

2 cups
sugar
2 cups
water

Steps to Prepare

    • 2 cup sugar
  1. Add sugar into a small cooking pot.

    • 2 cup water
  1. Add water into the cooking pot. The ratio of sugar to water is 1:1.

  1. Heat sugar and water mixture over medium heat, stirring the sugar from time to time.
  2. After 11/2min reduce heat to low. Do not let the water boils, otherwise the dissolved sugar would crystallized when it is cooled.

  1. After 3min the sugar solution is still milky. Keep on stirring from time to time.

  1. After 6min all the sugar dissolve and the solution becomes clear. Turn off heat and allow sugar syrup to cool.

  1. When sugar syrup has sufficiently cooled (after 15min), transfer into a 1L measuring jug. You will get 750ml of sugar solution.

  1. Transfer the sugar syrup into a bottle using a suitable funnel for storage.
